This painting reflects a place I know intimately. For over 30 years, I lived and worked in Blacksburg, Virginia, where the mountains, trails, and natural beauty of the Blue Ridge were woven into my everyday life. The view from Bald Knob at Mountain Lake—where this scene is set—was a favorite hike, a place where I often paused to breathe, reflect, and simply be.
From this high ridge, the world feels vast and full of possibility. The layered blues of distant mountains, the winding New River below, and the open sky above remind me of the quiet power of nature to ground us and lift us at the same time. This piece is not just a landscape—it’s a memory, a meditation, and a love letter to a region that shaped my sense of wonder and belonging.
