Artist Statement
sally miller is a Baltimore based artist whose primary work is training resident spiritual care practitioners at The Johns Hopkins Academic Medical Center. Miller's art, gifted to patients and chaplain residents, is featured in local coffee shops and several solo exhibits in Maryland from Fells Point to Bromo Arts District to Ocean City.
Each of miller's pieces features Asemic writing and abstract watercolors. Art is a way for her to process the loss and pain that comes with life and with work as a hospital chaplain educator. The pieces submitted were inspirited by a death in the pediatric oncology unit, an in utero baptism for a baby who died at birth, and the terminal illness of the love of miller's life. sally has come to believe that there's an inexorable connection between suffering love and beauty which is expressed in all of her art.
shape of the story depicts the ways grief, hope, joy and deep disappointment often abide in tension within a personal story.
